'Discovering and excavating the Abingdon Ophthalmosaur' - A talk by Jeff Wallis

Gallery Talks - AAAHS 50th Anniversary

We will meet at the Opthalmosaur showcase and enjoy together in the discovery of a such fascinating fossil ranking with some of the grand discoveries from the Jurassic Coast. 
The circumstances of the discovery, how it was excavated, its recording and removal initially to Bristol for final cleaning and mount making will be discussed.
We will also hear about the background geology and other fossil remains that have been recovered surprisingly within two miles or so of this museum.
We can take Abingdon back 155 million years beyond one of the earliest towns in England to when this was a warm seascape with some fearsome marine reptiles to rank along with T Rex!!


Time: 11:30 am and 1:30 pm (talks will last for 30 to 40 minutes)

Location: Attic Gallery (90 steps up).

Admission: FREE (Donations are gratefully received)
