CCFE-Fusion Power: the next STEP

Saturday, 23 March 2019 - 12:30pm

At Culham, the world’s foremost fusion laboratory, efforts to bring fusion power onto the grid are accelerating. The UK Atomic Energy Authority is designing ‘STEP’ – a fusion power station based on compact reactors called spherical tokamaks. Find out how our work is pushing towards harnessing fusion, the heart of stars, to power our homes.

Dr Nick Walkden is plasma physicist and has been based at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy for the last 7 years. During his time in the field he has worked on the largest fusion devices in Europe, carrying out both experimental and theoretical work to better understand the complexities of these devices. He is currently helping, as part of an extremely talented team at CCFE, to prepare MAST-Upgrade, the UK's flagship fusion machine, for its first experiments later this year.

Tickets £5.00 (children £2.50) from https://bit.ly/2EhXwXR
