Jackie Oates and Megan Henwood

Thursday, 7th September7:00pm-10:00pm

At the beautiful Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon-on-Thames come and hear the multi award winning folk duo Jackie Oates and Megan Henwood.

This stunning partnership meld their love of storytelling, song-writing, and melody with their voices and acoustic instruments. The result –a beautiful, fresh sound that combines both reworked traditional folk songs with original material. Their individual musical backgrounds are quite different yet their voices blend effortlessly.

Jackie needs no introduction to the folk fraternity having played originally with Rachel Unthank and the Winterset and more recently in Imagined Village with Martin and Eliza Carthy. She is six albums into a successful solo career.

Megan was first introduced to the folk world when at 19 she won the BBC Young Folk Award in 2009. She has subsequently stepped slightly outside traditional folk music and can be heard regularly on BBC Radio 2. She is currently writing songs for her third album for release in October 2017 and completed her first national UK theatre tour (22 dates) last year supporting Show of Hands.

The two met at their ‘local’ folk club Nettlebed, where they discovered their voices and musicianship complemented each other and Jackie was soon playing and singing harmonies on Megan’s last album ‘Head Heart Hand’.

So they decided to record some songs together, including a cover of the Lau’s ‘Ghosts’ and New Order’s Love Vigilantes, along with a couple of more traditional folk songs and a Megan original.

Their ‘Wings EP’ was released in August 2016 and was supported with a handful of shows including the EP’s launch at London’s St Pancras Old Church.
