It will be a day of lectures and discussion, focussing on recent developments in our knowledge of the past of Abingdon and its region, and on the prospects and direction of future work both in local history and archaeology.


Morning session 09.45 am to 1.00 pm

9.45 am Welcome and Introduction by BOB EVANS, AAAHS Chairman

10 .00 am JOHN BLAIR: Anglo-Saxon Abingdon: some new thoughts.

11.00 am DAVID CLARK: Survival of the Fittest? The ups and downs of Abingdon’s buildings over 50 years.

12 noon JACKIE SMITH: Abingdon from the Railway Age to the JET Age.

Lunch break 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm

Afternoon session 2.00 pm to 4.15 pm

2.00 pm GEORGE LAMBRICK: 50 years of Abingdon Archaeology -  Past and Future Challenges and Responses.

3.00 pm ROGER THOMAS: The archaeology of Abingdon, 1968 to 2018 – what have we   learned?

4.00 pm BOB EVANS: Summing up and closing remarks.
