Treasures Beneath Our Feet & Finding the Watlington Hoard

Tuesday, 22 January 2019 - 2:30pm

James Mather is the man who found the Watlington Viking Hoard and he will talk about his hobby of responsible metal detecting. He will feature some of the more exciting(and unusual) items he has found and recorded over the past 25 years, including the Hoard, which was acquired by the Ashmolean/Nation for £1.35m. This is an exceptional find and generated world-wide publicity when it was discovered. James will also bring along a number of "Hands-On" Finds, which attendees always appreciate. He has given a number of well received talks and appeared on local radio and National TV.  Please note: the picture used to illustrate the talk is copyright of the Trustees of the British Museum and should not be used without their permission
