Looking forward to my breakfast already!

It's a full Market Place tomorrow with the return of the largest Abingdon market with craftworkers, home and farm produce, community stalls and a chance to buy your wristbands for Music in the Park which is only a week away! It's a 6am start for us market managers but with breakfast at the bun stall followed by breakfast at the pie stall, we still look forward to it! Stalls start trading at 9am. The Market closes at 2pm.

Horn call from the county hall roof 16 May

On 16 May the Museum opened its doors from 6-9pm for the first time as part of the national Museums at Night event. Over 300 enthusiastic visitors enjoyed an evening of music, roof views, late night shop, cafe and open exhibitions. The superb weather attracted crowds to the county hall roof with its stunning views of Abingdon at dusk. There were traditional toys for children of all ages to enjoy and live music in the gallery and café from Amity, the Oxford Horn Trio and Ian Miles. The Mayor, escort and Deputy Mayor welcoming Abingdonians to the Mayor's Reception.

Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council chose the town's new Mayor last night by a unanimous vote. Cllr Angela Lawrence was elected, naming her husband Steve as her escort for the year. Cllr Helen Pighills was elected Deputy Mayor. More information on the Mayor's page

Mayor Making Evening 2013

On Wednesday evening the town once again holds its traditional Mayor Making Ceremony. The present Mayor, Cllr Samantha Bowring, will leave office and, in a formal ceremony, hand over the chain, robes and duties to a new Mayor elected on the evening by the full council in front of the public. The evening is also the chance for the outgoing Mayor to thank those who have supported her in her year in office and to give Mayor’s Awards to volunteers, officers and members of clubs and societies who have given outstanding service to the community. Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner will take place tonight, Saturday, 3rd May, 7pm for 7.30pm. The event is being held to raise money for Abingdon charities. The Dinner will take place at the new Barns Building at the Crown and Thistle Hotel.  Tickets are available at £40 each, which includes a drinks reception, three course meal, dancing and entertainment. Grass Car in the Market Place

Today has been a buzzing day in the town centre with the Clubs and Societies Day in the Guildhall and the Local Excellence Market basking in the sunshine out on the Market Place. Town centre favourites, Patisserie Pascal, showed how to barnstorm a retailing opportunity, taking part in the Local Excellence Market and selling out of many of their lines by mid-morning. The grass-covered car on the Easygrass stand was a wonderful bit of strangeness but was soon out-shone by the deadly, silent Ninjas stalking the streets.
