Comedy Club Abingdon Oxford Friday Night Comedy

Due to popular demand the Out of Bounds Comedy Club is now changing from the last Thursday of the month to  LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH. This way more of you can relax and enjoy the fun without having to worry about it being a work night. Last month ( Dec 2013)  we sold out of tickets and were turning people away at the doors so we are expecting big things for this night as we move forward in to 2014. The Information Centre has informed us that the boundary walkers will meet at 11.30am in the Market Place on New Year's Day regardless of the weather and the route or activities will be tailored to suit the conditions. Get outside for some fresh air after all the eating and drinking of Christmas! - and join in this community event that upholds the ancient tradition of "beating the bounds".

Flood alert issued 22nd December - following heavy rain recently, a flood alert has been issued for the River Ock, from Watchfield to Abingdon. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at the Museum   The County Hall Museum will be open until 4pm on Sunday 22 December for all your last minute Christmas gift purchases. The Museum re-opens with selected items at sales prices on 3 January at 10am. Throughout 2014 we will be open Tuesday - Sunday and summer Bank Holiday Mondays from 10am to 4pm.

Yesterday the Mayor officially opened the Heart of Abingdon heritage trail around the St Helens quarter of the town. The walk includes five information boards, printed leaflets and an audio tour available to download on this website. The trail follows a short circular route starting in East St Helen Street, to St Helen’s church, the Almshouses, past the Thames and Ock river frontage via Margaret Brown Gardens to finish in West St Helen Street. £ 12,200 of the project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, £1,500 from Abingdon Town Council and £ 500 from the Choose Abingdon Partnership.

Donkeys in Abingdon-on-Thames

Santa Claus is in town tomorrow (Saturday 14th) from 11am on the Market Place. He couldn't bring his reindeer this time but there are some lovely donkeys coming from Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary who like being stroked. Come and do some of your Christmas shopping in our independent shops and meet Santa for free!

This Saturday sees the opening of the new heritage trail, Heart of Abingdon, with a leaflet, audio tour and five new information boards positioned around the St Helen's area, researched and designed by Friends of Abingdon and Abingdon Area Archaeology and History Society. If you're looking for something a little bit different this Christmas, make sure you pay a visit to the Christmas Craft Fair on the Market Place this Saturday between 9.30am -3pm when local craftmakers will be selling their handmade crafts. Crafts on offer will include jewellery, paintings, stained glass, preserves, drinks, Christmas cakes, table arrangements, wreaths, decorations, woodturned and leather gifts, and much more. Christmas shopping couldn't get much better with festive food and drink, and music by local brass bands!

The festive crowds turned out in force for the Abingdon Christmas Extravaganza yesterday. The parade set off up Stert Street at 11.45am led by a bagpipe band, and complete with stiltwalker, Father Christmas, Cinderella characters, Town Councillors, Morris Dancers, Air Cadets, majorettes ...and a donkey. The entertainments continued all afternoon, and were spread around the town centre with reindeer, Punch and Judy Shows and craft stalls along Bath Street, main stage in the Market Place, Mayor's Pamper Afternoon at the Guildhall, family activities in St Nicolas' Church and a petting zoo in... more
