Wristbands for Music in the Park are set to sell out again this year

Councillors have asked that the public be clearly told that Music in the Park wristbands may not be on sale for much longer. As in previous years the demand is looking like it will outstrip the available number of places which are limited for safety reasons. This year the selling of wristbands online appears to have increased the speed at which wristbands are selling and 30% of sales have been though the online sales site even though there is a booking fee when ordering wristbands this way. Music in the Park wristbands will be available this Saturday14th May from the Market Place (cash/cheque payments). Town councillors want to make sure that everyone has had the opportunity to hear about the event and buy their wristbands so this extra buying opportunity has been slotted in at short notice as the wristbands are selling fast. The tickets are always limited by safety considerations and this year's sales are already well over the half way mark. The Council's Annual Meeting and Mayor Making ceremony will take place at St Helen's Church, Abingdon-on-Thames, on Monday 9th May 2016 at 7pm. At this meeting the Mayor, Cllr Helen Pighills will hand over to a new Mayor.  At the Council meeting in March 2016 a nomination was received that Cllr Alice Badcock be elected Mayor for the year from 9th May 2016 and that Cllr Jan Morter be elected as Deputy Mayor. This year it is easier than ever to buy your wristband for Music in the Park as there is now an online sales option. Customers can purchase wristbands and choose whether to have them delivered by signed-for Royal Mail delivery to their own home or place of work, or whether to secure the booking and then pick up the wristbands at their leisure from the Information Centre when they are next in town. Sponsors this year are local estate agents, Davis Tate, who will be partly using their presence on the day to raise awareness of the work of the Amber Phillpott Trust. Music in the Park wristbands now available

Today the Information Centre at the Guildhall was busy with local residents coming in to get their wristbands for Music in the Park. The number of places available has been increased this year but fans are still advised to get their wristbands as early as possible as each year they seem to sell out a bit earlier than the previous year. The Information Centre is open for wristband enquiries from 9.30am to 3.00pm each weekday and also on Saturdays. Richard III abingdon museum lecture battle bosworth war of the roses

On February 19 BBC historical advisor Gareth Howell returns to Abingdon to deliver another of his engaging talks on military history.
