Christmas Craft Market change of date 12th December 2015

This Saturday on the Market Place there should have been an exciting array of hand-made craft products at our annual Christmas Craft Market. However, due to the forecast high winds we have had to change the date in the hope that, one week on, the winds will have subsided and we won't have the added excitement of gazebos rolling across the Market Place! 'Oh come all ye' on Wednesday 2nd December for Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames Carols on the Market Place. This is a free event for the community. Music will be provided by the Abingdon Town Band, there will be singers from the Community choir. There will be a collection for the Mayors chosen charities, The Abingdon Breakaway Club and Blue Skye Thinking.  The Carols start at 6pm and all are most welcome!

On Friday 11th December the Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, Cllr Helen Pighills, will be hosting the annual Over 70's Christmas Party.  This year it will begin at 2pm at the Preston Road Community Centre South Abingdon. Tickets are free and will be available from the 16th November at Abingdon Visitor and Community Information Centre, Roysse Court, Bridge Street. Abingdon can go from strength to strength Businesses in Abingdon have voted in favour of the town centre becoming a Business Improvement District. This means businesses in the area covered by the improvement district will pay money into a pot, which will be spent on improving the town centre with the aim of making it a better place for people to come and shop.  The amount of money a business contributes depends on its size, and some types of business don’t have to pay.  In total it will create almost £800,000 over the course of five years, all of which will be invested directly back into the... more

Craft Fair starts tomorrow

The annual Craft Fair at the Abbey Buildings starts tomorrow with a wealth of British hand-made and artisan products. The Fair runs from Thursday to Sunday this week and then again another Thursday to Sunday slot next week, after a change-round of exhibitors. Set in the beautiful medieval buildings that were once part of the great Abbey it is a real treat for a day out. The Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames Charity Quiz. Get your teams together and tackle the annual Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames Charity Quiz. This year’s quiz takes place on Friday 23rd October, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start, at the Long Furlong Community Centre, Abingdon. Tickets are available now from the Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council office, Bridge Street, Roysse Court. Tickets cost £15.00 per person and includes Buffet. The longest street fair in Europe

The Michaelmas Fair will be lighting up the town centre this coming Monday and Tuesday with rides stretching from the Market Place all the way down Ock Street. Famously the longest street fair in Europe it is open from noon each day through to 11pm. There is a traditional Fair Service in the Market Place to bless the fair taking place on the Sunday evening.  Next week the Runaway Fair follows on taking up a smaller space in the town but popular with the younger families. Videos of the launch presentations are now online on the Abingdon BID website if you want to just remind yourself what the key issues are or if you want more information. Businesses will be voting during October to decide whether they want the town centre to become a Business Improvement District as Newbury and 200 other towns around the UK have done. Many members of the BID Team stood up and spoke at the launch event and the team and supporters are also featured in the BID brochure which businesses will be receiving this week.
