Abingdon and Witney College Open Day on Wednesday
Published on: 07 Sep 2015
Abingdon and Witney College Open Days are a great opportunity for you to meet the tutors, ask as many questions as you like and see what our courses are really about. If you’re unsure about what options you have, or you’re unsure what course you’d like to do, we also have a dedicated Careers Adviser to help you make the right choice. There’s no need to book, just turn up on the day!  There is still one Open Day to come - this week on Wednesday 9th September 3.30pm-7pm. The event is running at both our Abingdon and Witney campuses.

Dragon Boat team paddling for victory
Published on: 04 Sep 2015
This weekend is Dragon Boat weekend! Not sure if the most fun is had by the excited teams paddling down the Thames for victory in the races, or by the amused spectators admiring (?) the outlandish costumes and grimacing faces of the suffering paddlers. There's stalls, drinks tent and fun entertainments for families and it all takes place on the banks of the lovely River Thames. Good luck to all the teams and to the hard-working volunteers from Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper! More details on the event listing byclicking here

Change of line up at Friday's Comedy Club
Published on: 28 Aug 2015
We are sorry to say that the headline act, Katherine Ryan, has cancelled her appearence at the Out of Bounds comedy night on the 28th August 2015. This is due to a scheduling conflict at the Edinburgh Festival.  The headline act is now Gordon Southern. He has 16 years of comedy experience under his belt and is one of the most sought after headline acts on the UK and international circuit. He regularly plays to sell out audiences at the most prestigious clubs in the country including Comedy Store and Jongleurs. His upbeat and energetic delivery combined with his fantastically funny... more

A scientific briefing before entering the dome!
Published on: 24 Aug 2015
The Sun Dome, presented by Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, is a fascinating and educational activity for youngsters aged 5+. The Sun Dome is a giant inflatable dome that uses projections, images and videos to explore the workings of the Sun, how it continues to burn and how the energy of the sun has inspired new research!  There has been a wonderful response from families for the first two workshops. The final workshop will take place this week 26 August 2015, with sessions running at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm. There are spaces available to book on a first come first served basis; contact the... more

New china stall at the Monday Market
Published on: 20 Jul 2015
There have been some changes at the Monday Market. Just a few weeks ago we were pleased to announce the arrival of the fresh fish van, which has now become a regular fixture, bringing freshly caught fish and seafood picked up in Grimsby that same morning. Following this we now have two more new stalls which started trading today bringing a splash of colour to the market. There's a new china stall with delightful mugs, teapots and jugs in attractive designs including butterflies and ladybirds and also a lovely stall with pinnies, cushions and other stitched household textiles. Both of them are... more

The entrance to the Town Council Offices in Roysse Court
Published on: 10 Jul 2015
The new flower baskets and central flower bed  in Roysse Court are now established and make a bright and welcoming view as visitors walk up in to town from the riverbank area. Outdoor team staff have been kept busy watering these and the many other displays around the town during the hot weather. The court has bench seating, in welcome shade for most of the morning, for the public to rest and enjoy the pink, white and purple displays and take in the view across the Market Place.

Crafts Market tomorrow
Published on: 12 Jun 2015
Alongside some of the well-loved stalls presented by the locality's best craftworkers and artisans, tomorrow's Craft Market will also have a mini-exhibition of patchwork, quilting and weaving to encourage people to "have a go" themselves. "Crafts are lovely to buy, particularly when beautifully designed and made by a local artist or artisan, but you appreciate them even more if you've had a go at doing them yourself." says one stallholder. "The quilts and textiles are a personal collection of work by three generations of one family; none of them are experts or full-time craftworkers and it... more

Craftworkers can apply for the June Craft Market
Published on: 01 Jun 2015
Just a few weeks to go until the Craft Market is back in Abingdon Market Place for its summer appointment. Stall places are being finalised this weekend so email heather.brown@abingdon.gov.uk if you are a quality and genuine local craftworker, artist or artisan and you would like to exhibit/trade at the Summer Craft Fair on 13th June. New exhibitors will be able to rent a gazebo as well as book a pitch so please ask if you don't have your own. Public liability insurance is a must so please do not enquire if you do not have it or cannot get it in time for the event date.
