Following the recent tender exercise in relation to the proposed improvements in relation to the Abbey Hall, the Town Council, at its meeting of 25th January 2017, has reviewed the project. The Council has, with regret, concluded that the project and the necessary works which are required to bring the Abbey Hall up to acceptable modern standards, is unaffordable in the context of the Council’s overall financial commitments and the fact that many of the services which would have been delivered from the Abbey Hall are provided by other organisations and businesses. Abingdon County Hall Museum has lent several objects from its collection to the Bampton Archive for their current exhibition “The Tanning Industry in Bampton – A not-so-small industry that we have forgotten”. The exhibition presents images and objects illustrating the tanning trade in Bampton as well as leatherworking in general. On now until 3 March 2017 in the Vesey Room of the Bampton Library, Monday to Saturday 10.30-12.30 and 2-4, Sunday 2-4. Entrance free.

Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council are once again organising the popular “Music in the Park” event.  Music in the Park has taken place in the Abbey Grounds every year since its inception as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, attracting large crowds with 3,500 wristbands being made available in the spring.This year Music in the Park takes place in the evening of Saturday 3rd June, following on from  the popular daytime event, Fun in the Park.  The event includes performances by local bands and the organising committee has already received a number of expressions of interest... more

This is a reminder that as usual, now that the Christmas festivities are concluded, you can bring your Christmas tree to the Market Place be recycled into woodchip. This annual event takes place on the Saturday after Twelfth Night and this year is scheduled for Saturday 7th January from 9am to 3pm. This service is provided by the Town Council in partnership with TVE Hire and Sales.   The woodchip produced will help to line our woodland pathways and provide compost for allotments and flowerbeds. The Annual New Year’s Day Boundary Walk will take place on Sunday 1st January 2017. Please gather at the Market Place from 11.15am for a start at 11.30am. The walk is estimated to take around two hours. Please come prepared appropriately with warm clothing and footwear appropriate for muddy conditions! The walk is led by two of the Abingdon Guild of Town Criers - Penny Clover and Tim Hunt.  Please join the walk if you want an energetic and interesting start to the New Year.
