A Special Parish Meeting was held on 15th January 2018 to discuss the Abbey Hall and the Guildhall. However due to space constraints not everyone was able to get in to the meeting. Consequently the Mayor offered to organise a meeting for those who could not get in. Please note that both the venue and the time of the meeting has been changed and this meeting will now take place at 7.30 pm on Monday 22nd January 2018 at St Helen’s Church. We are e-mailing those who have this week registered to attend the meeting, to inform them of the change of venue and time. We will have a member of staff at... more

Saturday 27th January, 10:00am-12:00pm   Join artist Barbara Payne and learn how to make a colourful collaged wall plaque inspired by the Green Man image. The Council is pleased to announce that this week major building improvements have started on the Guildhall. Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council are once again organising the popular “Music in the Park” event.  Music in the Park has taken place in the Abbey Grounds every year since its inception as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, attracting large crowds with 3,500 wristbands being made available in the spring. This year Music in the Park takes place in the evening of Saturday 2nd June, following on from the popular daytime event, Fun in the Park. In November of 2017 the wooden bridge leading from St Helen’s Court into the Ock Valley Walk had to be closed due to vandalism attacks that led to the bridge becoming unsafe. Since the closure The Town Council have set aside funds to replace the bridge with a more robust and sturdy construction to ensure it is safe for public use. The Town Council are currently consulting with The Environment Agency about whether their plans for Flood Alleviation would affect the construction of the new bridge. This is a reminder that as usual, now that the Christmas festivities are concluded, you can bring your Christmas tree to the Market Place to be recycled into woodchip. This annual event takes place on the Saturday after Twelfth Night and this year is scheduled for Saturday 6th January from 9am to 3pm. This service is provided by the Town Council in partnership with TVE Hire and Sales.   The woodchip produced will help to line our woodland pathways and provide compost for allotments and flowerbeds. The Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, Cllr Jan Morter, is hosting a Joint concert with Oxford Welsh Male Voice Choir and Oxfordshire County Youth Choir On Saturday 3rd February 2018 at 7:30 PM. The Concert is being held at St Helens Church in Abingdon and all proceeds that are raised are going to the Mayor's Charities, Against Breast Cancer and The Abingdon Bridge. This will take place on Saturday 27th January 2018 at 7pm.  All proceeds go to the Mayor's Charities, Against Breast Cancer and The Abingdon Bridge.
