Business

Abingdon-on-Thames has a thriving and close-knit business community. A range of networking organisations and business groups exists to encourage local links and facilitate a strong local commitment to spending money with local suppliers when possible. Several of our larger corporate businesses are contributors of time, expertise and funding contributions to community projects and events. In addition, councils and business leaders maintain important dialogues which have resulted in business-friendly initiatives becoming part of local policy, such as two hours free parking in town car parks, a shopfront grant scheme and five years of public sector financial support for the Choose Abingdon Partnership.

If you run a business in the area, plan to start a business in the area or would like to relocate your business to the area, there are several sources of support and information.

Economic Development Team, Vale of White Horse District Council. This team at Milton Park can assist with good marketing locations and obtaining suitable premises. They are based at 135 Eastern Avenue, Milton Park with South Oxfordshire's headquarters as well. This provides a network of the towns Abingdon-on-Thames, Faringdon and Wantage in the Vale of White Horse DC and Didcot, Henley, Thame, Wallingford in South Oxfordshire DC. Each town and visitor information centre is linked into the tourism site www.southernoxfordshire.com

Business Improvement District. In the coming years this first BID district in our county will gear up to assist the business community.

Abingdon-on-Thames Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Abingdon Civic Society and other organisations have pages on this site as well as their own information.
