A great place to browse

With a wide range of independent shops, Abingdon-on-Thames is emphatically an individual. It’s a unique place to spend a relaxing day browsing and discovering something new. The streets cluster around the medieval Market Place, making it easy to wander around without walking too far, and everything is just a stone’s throw from the picturesque Thames riverbank. Family-run businesses mean that friendly service is backed by sound knowledge of the products they sell, so you will find our shopkeepers a refreshing change.

If you would like to search for a business by name, you can use the Business Directory. or look at individual streets. Don't confine your browse tothe town centre as there are some gems in all parts of town.

Are you a new local business? Businesses are listed on request. If you would like your business listed then please e-mail full details to enquiries@abingdon.gov.uk a photograph would be useful.

Bury Street has its own website with offers in the shops in this town centre pedestrian area. Abingdon-on-Thames Chamber of Commerce has useful extra information and lots of information on a Christmas in Abingdon theme.

The town is one sixty towns in England which have a centre that has to be conserved for its history and listed ancient buildings. Large departmental stores are mainly to the West of the town centre, a short walk or take the 15 or 31 bus from Stratton Way.
